At Straight Talk Consulting, we believe in three principles of success: Education, Common Sense and Courage. If you have two of the three you will be a success. Why just two? If you have two of the three principles, the third is fulfilled unavoidably.

What is success? Many confuse success with notoriety, fame, and/or wealth. But true success is when a person has maximized his or her own potential, stepped outside of the box and accomplished the unthinkable.

Education is the result produced by instruction, training, or study; Common Sense is sound practical judgment that is independent of specialized knowledge, training, or the like; normal native intelligence. Courage is the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear .

How do these 3 principles translate into success? Consider a person with education and common sense – he or she uses knowledge acquired through formal schooling coupled with common sense derived from observation and experience. During the decision making process, courage is cultivated prompting the individual to step outside the box. He or she has employed their education and common sense, weighed all the options, considered all the consequences, and reached a sound conclusion. How can we determine if this individual is a success? Simple. The opposite of success is failure, and failure only occurs in the absence of effort. The fact that this person is willing to try makes him or her a success.

Meanwhile, an individual with courage and education has the nerve to use logic to step outside of the box and try something new. The experience creates common sense. Once again the formula is complete, and this person will be a success.

Furthermore, an individual with common sense and courage draws on “street smarts”. They navigate through decision making by way of past experiences and learning from the mistakes of those that went before them. They are smart enough to know that if they haven’t received formal training in a particular area, they need to find a mentor and draw off their expertise. They are brave enough to take risks because they believe in themselves enough to know that they have the will so there is bound to be a way, and they will find it!

So as you can see, any combination of two of the three principles guarantees success. I challenge you to discover the talents you have within yourself utilize these principles and become the best You that you can be!
